Free Video to AppleTV Converter is a great video converter. It is a free tool that allows you to convert pretty much any video file into an H.264 file that will play smoothly on your AppleTV devices. The files will be optimized for playback on the AppleTV, but any other device that has support for H.264 and AAC will play them just as well. These days, H.264 is gaining a lot of support for video playback.
Unlike other converters from DVDVideoSoft, this one only has two conversion profiles in standard quality and one in high quality. If you ask me, it makes a lot of sense. There are only two models of AppleTV, so you don't need twenty different profiles. By default, you are shown two profiles, one for PAL and another for NTSC. If you choose "High" as your quality, a 720p profile will appear, which will increase the resolution of your videos to 720p. Of course, if the video you are converting from isn't of high quality, the results will be less than spectacular. Some people might complain that there isn't an option for 1080i or 1080p, but that will probably get added in the future.
In my testing, I was able to convert a 720p MKV file into an H.264 720p video with no problems and no quality loss. I like that this app keeps it to-the-point and doesn't confuse user with useless settings or features.
